The Foundation held its most prestigious annual event, the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law, on Thursday, December 2, and Friday, December 3. This year marked the fourth edition of the symposium. Carrying forward the spirit of exploration, knowledge-seeking, and cross-disciplinary communication from 2018, 2019, and 2020, this year’s themes focused on "The Legal Impact of Smart Finance" (Taipei Session) and "The Legal Impact of Smart Transportation" (Hsinchu Session).

The Smart Finance session was held at the largest venue of the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation. It was co-organized with the Bank of Taiwan, E.SUN Bank, and the Taiwan Association for Financial Governance and Compliance. The event invited a wide range of financial institutions and professionals, featuring distinguished guests such as the Chairmen of both Bank of Taiwan and E.SUN Bank as speakers and moderators.

The Smart Transportation session was specially held at the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park in the heart of Taiwan’s tech hub. This session attracted many professionals from related industries. Through the exchange of ideas among experts and scholars from various fields, participants explored the possibilities of AI applications in the finance and transportation sectors, the challenges to be overcome, and strategies to accelerate industrial development.

The application of AI and algorithms in the financial sector is flourishing. From intelligent customer service, claims-handling bots, and AI underwriting to virtual tellers and Robotic Process Automation (RPA), the scope of AI in finance continues to expand. Given the massive scale of capital and assets involved, the impact on the financial system and legal frameworks is significant, creating an urgent need for effective management and the integration of legal regulations.

Smart transportation is a common concern for major cities worldwide as it closely impacts every citizen's daily life. In recent years, countries have been competing to develop AI autonomous driving technology and amending laws to allow self-driving vehicles to be tested on public roads. Taiwan, characterized by high urbanization, population density, and high vehicle ownership, faces complex traffic issues. Consequently, the legal supporting measures for autonomous vehicles require further social consensus.
