Legislator Wu Tsung-hsien, who also serves as the Deputy Executive Director of the International Foundation for Artificial Intelligence and Law, stated in his opening remarks: "This symposium features papers discussing the ethics of smart healthcare robotics and the regulatory issues of smart wearable devices in medical applications. These topics not only align with my focus on elderly housing issues but also echo the 'Draft Artificial Intelligence Basic Act' that I have been promoting in collaboration with the Foundation." Legislator Wu further pointed out that while rooting AI education in younger generations, equal importance must be placed on discussing the construction of AI legal frameworks. This ensures that future AI development grows healthily on a legal basis, thereby enhancing Taiwan's influence in the global AI landscape.
Chu Chao-min, Chairman of the International Foundation for Artificial Intelligence and Law, also emphasized in his speech: "The connection between AI development and the law is paramount." He noted that while the Foundation promotes AI education, it remains consistently committed to researching relevant legal frameworks to ensure that AI technology is innovated and applied on a legal and compliant basis.
Professor Chang Li-ching, Chair Professor at Shih Chien University and Executive Director of the International Foundation for Artificial Intelligence and Law, stated: "In recent years, Shih Chien University has actively promoted AI education and cross-disciplinary research. We have collaborated with NVIDIA to establish the 'NVIDIA Studio x ASUS Collaboration Space' and received grants from the Workforce Development Agency and the Ministry of Education to set up the 'AI Image Recognition and Visual Design Industry Talent Training Center' and implement the 'iLink Human Social Science and Industrial Practice Innovation Linkage Project'."
To keep pace with industrial trends, the Department of Law at Shih Chien University has integrated resources from industry and government—including the International Foundation for Artificial Intelligence and Law, YongLin Education Foundation, the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the Ministry of Labor, and the Control Yuan. These efforts have led to the launch of programs such as the "Interdisciplinary Credit Program in AI and Law," the "AI Campus Tour Project: Exploration of Future AI Applications and Trends," and the "National Human Rights Commission (Control Yuan) 2024 Youth Human Rights Education Promotion Project." These initiatives aim to cultivate cross-disciplinary AI talent at the grassroots level, comprehensively enhancing students' multidimensional thinking and professional expertise in the fields of AI and law.
